Dawes at the NC Museum of Art Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC
Covering shows at the NC Art Museum (Joseph M. Bryan, JR., Theater in the Museum Park), is a splendid thing and getting a chance to cover Dawes there was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
Dawes was great, but this Art Museum, they’ve got all the angles handled…I was thinking on my drive home that they should go into the festival business…”The Art of the Festival”
Dawes has been popping up again and again in the music news, playing a ton of festivals, the Outlaw Music Festival (around the country but not ours here), and the Newport Folk Festival to name a couple and I was fortunate enough to catch them here at the Art Museum’s wonderful amphitheater. If you follow my work, you know by now I’m not a music critic..I just enjoy music, music soothes my troubled soul. But I think you can read my photos in telling the story, and Dawes gets down and puts on a great show.
I brought my trusty 5D Mk II bodies, and used the 70-200mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 16-35mm 2.8 Canon lenses running at about 1/200 shutter speed, at F2.8 with an ISO of 1000. As the show started there was plenty of daylight, and the sun came down quickly, so I adjusted my settings for the key light on the main mic and just went from there. For this one I was sliding my exposure controls all over the place in post processing. Thats just how it goes sometimes. Believe me, nothing you see me do is real.
