Had the opportunity to cover Rainbow Kitten Surprise last night. Again, we really lucked out with the beautiful weather. Considering it was raining like crazy the night before, all seemed to good to be true. Wow, Red Hat Amphitheater was packed last night. RKS is what we’d call a local band out of Boone, North Carolina. Alternative rockers and on their way to a spectacular career. It’s sooo good to see it happening in front of our own bloodshot, beady little eyes.
You’ll see an image or two where I was experimenting with shooting through a prism. I think prisms work well with alternative music, providing us with another perspective. Of course I brought my trusty Canon 5D Mk IIs, using the Canon 70-200mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8 and the 16-35mm 2.8 lenses for this one.
To use a prism you have to take the lens hood off your lens to get it close enough so the glass itself is out of focus, which I did with the 16 -35, and that makes me very nervous. Running around in the pit bumping in to all the infrastructure and other photographers grinds our equipment down to shrapnel. Not having your lens hood on is actually dimwitted. But hey, everything for the art of presentation.
