The audience will be both digging and tied to Shovels and Rope at the Joseph Bryan, Jr. Theater in the NC Museum of Art Park this summer. The partners play the venue Saturday, June 16th at 8:00 PM. The Americana/folk/country rock duo and husband and wife team of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst are from Charleston, SC. Both Trent and Hearst are talented songwriters, vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. Both have solo finesse and bring a touch of individuality to the table in their duo. S&R live shows are guaranteed vibrant and refreshing. I caught a performance by Shovels and Rope at Floydfest in 2016 and I was extremely impressed by their stage presence and originality. Their energy is infectious and audience members can be assured that this duo will bring new rubber, no tired worn “retread” music.
Also on the bill is Son Volt. Son Volt has been bringing their own brand of surging power to the studio and live off and on for 24 years. This alternative country blues/country rock band was formed in St. Louis in 1994 by front man Jay Farrar of Uncle Tupelo fame. Need I say more? Fans should definitely remember their first release “Trace”, which was a spectacular debut album. The current lineup includes five seasoned musicians. Jay Farrar excels on lead vocals and guitar; Jacob Edwards takes on drums; Chris Frame is on guitar; Mark Spencer plays steel guitar and keyboards and Andrew Duplantis is their touring bassist.
