As I edited through this shoot, a highly organized performance became apparent among all the performers. Lots of dazzle, wit, branding and sizzle. How I photographed this show:
This had to be the hottest, most humid night I’ve shot at Walnut Creek, (now the “Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek” ). Many of the old timer concert photographers were there, as well as a few new faces, and extra people too. A video guy with this giant camera was in the pit with us…he seemed to be very sensitive about his cord..and an extra giant security guard from the band. You can tell those Band Security guys murder people on a regular basis, so it’s “Quite OK to be BETWEEN MY CAMERA AND THE STAGE, yes, quite fine, please stand there…you look great by the way…REALLY!!!”. -There is no room in the pit…and maybe 10 or more of us were crammed in there. Hot, humid, everyone was a bit sensitive I think because of the heat….then it began to rain…
For this show I used three Canon 5D Mark II bodies with the 16-35 – 2.8, the 24-70 – 2.8, and the 70-200 – 2.8 Canon lenses.
None of my gear fell into any puddles this time…but it did take a day to dry the sweat out of my BlackRapid harness.
