Tommy Emmanuel was one of my first concert photography gigs when I joined raleighmusic.com. Mark Winston did a terrific interview then, check it out there.
I looked forward to seeing him and Joe Robinson at the Carolina. I love the atmosphere at the Carolina Theatre in Durham and it always seems full of my long lost friends I haven’t met yet. This evening I used the three Canon Mark 2 bodies, the Canon 70-200, 24-70 and 16-35. Bringing all this gear to this particular show seems a bit overkill but as it was laid out, although I could get up to the stage, there was no photo pit. Being verboten to stand in front of the VIPs there, in some situations I ran back to a further (ad)vantage point and could clear the mic stand a little using the 70-200.
Tommy Emmanuel blew my socks off of course. And Joe Robinson, watch him, follow him…a great sound!
