Alter Bridge with Non-Point and Weapons of Anew play The Ritz 2/12/2017

I slowed down on the concert photography over the last few months due to a load of studio work. Shooting outfits for a catalog for Booty Candy Pole Wear and Aradia Pole Fitness’s staff photos for the owner, the amazing Dakota Fox. ( I shot some Commercial Advertising for a concrete furniture company Merge also but I thought you’d like to hear about Booty Candy instead. ) I looked forward to  this show as a great way to dust off the ‘ole fisheye.untitled-2This evening I was shooting at a relatively fast shutter speed to capture the movement and had to crank up the iso on my old concert camera bodies, but it paid off. I got a jumper!
untitled-3I used my three Canon Mark 2 bodies, with the 15mm Fish Eye, the 14mm Rectilinear, and the 16-35mm. As you can see here I made the commitment for wide angle. I did sacrifice lots of juicy portraits, and drummer shots…which is a sin, but in certain cases I’m exploring a cinematic approach. This is why you see so many horizontals. untitled-27I’m looking into telling the story of the night in an image more so than an individual portrait although the portraits are so important to crack too.
untitled-29It’s interesting when a shot becomes a “scene”.  How much story can I get into one photo? But each photo has to receive it’s strength from the composition of the design of the image. And to push the composition a step further, each image must be iconic, while bringing attention to the story within the image. untitled-28It’s always so tempting to throw another less successful image in the mix…to further illustrate the story. Probably out of fear. Fear that the few top keepers are not telling the full story..the 2 or 3 images. Thats a weakness. untitled-5What can I tell ya. I’m weak.
untitled-6When I get better I promise, I’ll just submit the best shot. Only one image per concert. Thats confidence! untitled-7
